WJLA's Kicking Up a Debate WJLA recently played two nightly segments dedicated to breast self-exams, baring all in a hope to educate women, they said--not boost ratings. As bloggers debate on whether or not this was a smart move, more people are also asking whether or not these exams are even needed. With an adult viewership of 58% women, station manager Bill Lord said that WJLA's choice to show the bare-breasted tutorials was providing an important service to women who do not know how to check their breasts. "In talking to women, we found out there really weren't a lot of women who knew how to do self breast exams," he said. Now many reports are claiming that these examinations aren't even necessary.
